Oceanbotics SRV-8X OPTIMUS ROV

The SRV-8X Optimus ROV was developed to push the limits required for offshore and more challenging deployments where larger payload capabilities and more sensors are required for more demanding and deeper missions. The stronger thrusters provide for operating in higher currents with quicker responsiveness.

Going Further and Deeper

An optional fiber optic tether and provides for operating at depths up to 500 meters and distances of up to several kilometers. It also provides a data bandwidth in excess of 1 GB/sec.

You can add a wide variety of sensors and robotic arms as a field upgradeable “plug-n-play” installation/solution. Our SubNav-X™ software is preconfigured to recognize approved devices and work out of the box.

Enhanced Features

Larger thrusters and more powerful design of the Optimus ROV increases payload limitations and ability to work in stronger currents at deeper depths.

Available In Multiple Factory Configurations

All configurations are field upgradable with any of our integrated add-on technologies.

SRV-8X OPTIMUS ROV - MDV

SRV-8X OPTIMUS ROV - MDV (Mine Disposal Vehicle)

Mine Disposal Vehicle

Remotely Operated Underwater Vehicle for Naval Mine Countermeausres

The SRV-8X Mine Disposal Vehicle (MDV) is a military-grade remotely operated underwater vehicle (ROV) specifically designed to assist naval Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) teams in detecting and neutralizing naval mines and unexploded ordinance (UXO) Trusted by commercial and military professionals worldwide, these user-friendly ROVs deliver reliable performance in mine countermeasures (MCM) operations, providing a safer alternative to traditional clearance diver methods.

This is more about 8X ROV MDV

With a quick deployment time of under three minutes, the SRV-8X MDV allows teams to respond swiftly to underwater threats. As part of Oceanbotics’ Special Purpose Vehicle Division, it offers advanced capabilities for fast, efficient, and effective missions.

The SRV-8X MDV is the standard ROV with added mine disposal accessories. You can also customize the smaller SRV-8 ROV to fit your specific mine disposal needs.

How to Neutralize a Mine with a SRV-8 ROV MDV

  1. Find the Mine – Use the ROV’s sonar and camera to locate the sea mine and move towards it.

  2. Position the ROV – Move the ROV to place the charge disruptor exactly on the mine’s weak spot.

  3. Release the Shock Tube – Let go of the shock tube and back the ROV up to a safe distance.

  4. Move to Safety – Drive the ROV to a safe distance away from the mine.

  5. Set Off the Explosion – Once the ROV is at a safe distance, trigger the explosion to destroy the mine safely.

Naval Mines

What are Naval Mines?

A naval mine is an underwater explosive designed to destroy ships and submarines. Even after years of lurking on the ocean floor, these mines remain dangerous, capable of exploding or leaking harmful chemicals.

What are Mine Countermeasures (MCM)?

Mine countermeasures (MCM), also known as subsea mine neutralization, involve safely identifying and neutralizing unexploded ordinance (UXO) such as underwater sea mines. These operations are typically carried out using trained clearance divers, specialized ships, or unmanned underwater vehicles (UUVs). These operations involve navigating to the identified mine’s location—whether it is floating, anchored, or resting on the seabed—and neutralizing the threat.

The ultimate goal of MCM is to ensure safe waterways and protect ships by eliminating the danger posed by mines.

ROVs Protect Divers

Remotely operated underwater vehicles (ROVs) provide naval EOD teams with a safer way to neutralize ocean mines, eliminating the need to place clearance divers in harm’s way. These advanced underwater drones are specifically designed to deliver fast and efficient solutions while keeping personnel out of danger. Customized for inspection and mine disposal, ROVs streamline operations and enhance safety during the detonation of underwater threats.

Military teams trust the SRV-8X MDV because it stands out in cost-efficiency, ease of use, and time-saving performance. ROV pilots can master controls quickly thanks to our user-friendly design and intuitive software. With the ability to neutralize threats efficiently, these underwater drones save both time and costs, making them an indispensable asset for EOD missions.

ACOUSTIC (SONAR) TRACKING SYSTEM

SRV-8X ROV OPTIMUS ATS - Acoustic (sonar) Tracking System

This is more about ATS

The SRV-8X Optimus ATS is an exceptional remotely operated underwater vehicle (ROV) engineered to detect pingers & transponders used to identify precise underwater locations.

A prime example includes underwater locator beacons (ULBs) affixed to black boxes (flight recorders), commonly found on commercial aircraft. When directed towards an acoustic beacon, the ATS receives an audio signal, providing information about the exact location of the target. Oceanbotics incorporated these navigation capabilities into its SubNav-X OS software, which is known for its intuitive design and user-friendly experience. Utilizing a signal strength meter, the software precisely determines the beacon’s location by analyzing the characteristics of the audio tone.

The SRV-8X Optimus ATS is also capable of discreetly identifying sonar transponders without revealing their positions, rendering it a highly valuable resource for operations that require absolute confidentiality. With the aid of a conventional gaming controller, the operator can navigate and pinpoint the beacons and transponders with ease. This state-of-the-art technology significantly enhances sonar detection, empowering professionals in defense and search & rescue sectors.
